Our Mission and More

Mission

PEAK Animal Sanctuary is a haven for animals that inspires community and advocates for a peaceful coexistence among all species.

As Indiana’s first sanctuary for formerly ‘farmed’ animals, we believe that smack-dab in the thick of animal agriculture is where PEAK is needed more than anywhere. Given the opportunity to experience the sentience of ‘farmed’ animals we know that people will be changed—we’ve seen it! And those changes ripple out into the world.

This is the power of sanctuary.

Vision

We envision a vegan world where animals are respected as individuals, and humans can connect and learn alongside them.

Values

People

We welcome people into our inclusive community to be inspired, learn about veganism, and connect with animals.

Earth

We respect the land we care for that provides vegetation, biodiversity, food and shelter. We value a restorative relationship with animals and the planet. We honor the land of the Miami that we steward.

Animals

We advocate for our fellow animals as individuals with the freedom to live lives with agency, form friendships, and have forever sanctuary here. We enable animals to exist free from harm, fear, and exploitation.

Kinship

We foster community, collaboration, and connection among people, the Earth, and animals.

History

PEAK was founded in 2012, opening our barn doors the following year to our first residents, piglets Annie and Andy, followed closely by the piglet trio Brandi, Erica and Isaac.

Originally located in Salem, Indiana on a smaller (20 acre) property, in 2018 we moved to our current property in Freedom.

PEAK was founded by Mark and Michelle Pruitt who made the decision to move on in 2021.

Today, PEAK is home to dozens of rescued ‘farm’ animals. Our promise to these survivors is that they will each have the opportunity to live their best lives full of love, respect and care.
