Maria Schau

Maria has worked in animal rescue and protection for 35 years.

Maria went vegan while working as an animal welfare officer. She picked up a chicken that was running loose; the hen put her head under Maria’s chin and snuggled in. It was at that moment that Maria “woke up.”

Maria was making plans to buy land and start a sanctuary when a friend told her about a job opening at PEAK.

“Being at PEAK and interacting with our residents is the most beautiful experience! They make us smile every day. It’s so rewarding when a visitor connects with someone, and you see them ‘wake up’ too.”
